Stop the Itch: 3 Mosquito Bite Remedies

Do you have a mosquito bite that is driving you crazy? Mosquitoes are more than just a nuisance; they can also transmit diseases like Zika, West Nile Virus, and malaria. But perhaps the most annoying thing about them is the itching their bites cause. So while it might be tempting to keep scratching, Wagner Pest Solutions is here to offer three other mosquito bite remedies.

1. Oatmeal Paste

One effective mosquito bite remedy is oatmeal paste. Simply mix equal parts oatmeal and water, and apply the paste to the affected area. The oatmeal will help absorb the mosquito’s saliva, and the cool water will help reduce swelling and redness. Leave the paste on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse off with cool water. You should notice a significant reduction in discomfort and itching. Repeat as needed until the mosquito bite is healed.

2. Aloe Vera

Another effective mosquito bite remedy is aloe vera. The plant contains a compound called gibberellin, which has mosquito repellent properties. One study found aloe vera to be just as effective at repelling mosquito bites as DEET, the active ingredient in many insect repellents. In addition to being an effective mosquito bite remedy, aloe vera is safe for use on human skin and has a soothing effect on irritated skin.

3. Lemon Balm

Lemon balm is a great plant to have in your garden, not only because it is mosquito resistant but also because it has many benefits for your skin. The oil from the lemon balm plant can treat mosquito bites and other skin irritations. Just apply a small amount of the oil to the affected area, which will help to soothe the itchiness and redness. You can also make a lemon balm mosquito repellent by adding a few drops of the oil to your favorite lotion or mosquito spray.
