Pest Control

5 Plants That Help Repel Pests

As the seasons change and warmer weather approaches, common pests such as ants, bees, mosquitos, termites, and scorpions can quickly take over your lawn. Here at Wagner Pest Solutions, we understand the importance of spring pest control. We offer premium solutions all year long, but there are some plants you can add to your flower beds to help keep annoyances away. Here is a list of some of our favorites.

1. Lavender

Lavender gives off a soothing aroma and makes a great addition to your flower beds. The purple flower adds a bit of color to any landscaping, and the same aroma that people love repels flies, mosquitoes, and moths. Try putting some in a flower pot next to your doorway to prevent these pests from getting into your home this spring.

2. Basil

If you deal with mosquitoes, place basil pots around your home. Not only will you have a fresh herb growing in your backyard, but the smell of the oils will keep the mosquitoes away. You don’t have to worry about crushing up any of the leaves to repel these pests, and the oil will even kill mosquito eggs.

3. Peppermint

Mint is another herb plant that smells great and repels common pests. Plant some in a pot near the back patio or sprinkle it throughout your landscaping beds. It naturally grows low to the ground, so it can create a decorative backdrop for colorful flowers. The best part is you can use the leaves as a garnish to your favorite springtime refreshment.

4. Marigolds

Residents in Arizona love to plant marigolds throughout their landscaping for a pop of color. This low maintenance flower also does a great job at keeping aphids and mosquitoes away for the season. To give your home added pest control protection with an aesthetic appeal, keep these planted in a sunny spot around the back patio or near the front porch.

5. Eucalyptus

The eucalyptus tree provides an oil that can create an effective repellent for sand ants. Plant a few of these along your fence line and use the oil from the leaves to create a natural bug spray. Use it to repel flies, mosquitoes, ants, mites, aphids, and earwigs.
